A cultural showcase in Phnom Penh changes perceptions of Cambodia
An arts and business fair showcases modern Cambodia for World Economic Forum delegates
The World Economic Forum on ASEAN was held in Phnom Penh in May 2017. The International Business Chamber of Cambodia recognized a unique opportunity to deepen engagement between the foreign delegates and local Cambodian businessmen and government officials. They sponsored a glamourous evening networking event. We knew that many of the delegates had an outdated image of Cambodia as a poor country with limited resources. We wanted to change these attitudes by providing a showcase featuring Cambodia’s vibrant art, music, and cultural scene, and its young, growing entrepreneurial spirit.
We designed Cambodian Vibes as an event that included performances from top Cambodian talent in music, dance, and fashion. We included booths where Cambodian entrepreneurs, artists, photographers, architects could showcase their works.
The audience for the event included two country heads and three billionaires. The event was a great success, with delegates expressing surprise and delight at the vibrant Cambodian culture they discovered.
Delegates said Cambodian Vibes was a highlight of the summit and gave them a new understanding of modern Cambodia.
