Khmer-language live workshops provided basic and advanced business skills training
Cambodia is a country of small businesses, but most small business owners do not have training in the basics of running a business. As the economy grows, SMEs need better skills to take advantage of new opportunities.
MangoTango developed a training program based on the human-centered research conducted for the development of the Small Business Forum, a resource for online training accessed via a Facebook community. Khmer-language live training sessions and workshops provided basic training including accounting, business planning, decision-making, and leadership. Advanced training programs included digital marketing, branding, finance, hiring processes, business registration & compliance. All sessions included panel discussions with inspirational local small business owners, who talked about their own growth and success stories. All sessions were free thanks to funding from the UK Government. The Small Business Forum
(SBF) Facebook page provided additional resources for learning.
The sessions were very popular — there were far more applicants and interested SMEs than space available in the training sessions. Feedback from the participants was positive; participants said they learned a lot and were inspired to keep learning.
Small business owners built their skills and their networks, which helped them to build their businesses with confidence.
